Madam Kratom was one of Canada’s oldest and most experienced vendors and positioned itself as a recognized business in the country, but not always for good reasons. Sketchy management and awful customer service ended up being its downfall.

Strictly speaking about its kratom products, many users claim that some strains were of excellent quality and had no complaints. However, another of the store’s significant problems was its outrageous prices.

Had it stayed in business, Madam Kratom would have been one of the longest-running kratom vendors in Canada and would have had more experience than many companies in the US. However, several elements raised red flags and led to its closure.

This article will detail what characterized Madam Kratom, its negative and positive points, and why it led to its inevitable closure.

First, here are our top recommendations to replace Madam Kratom.

About the Company

Madam Kratom was established in 2011, trying to be a part of Canada’s almost unexplored kratom market. It was distinguished from the start by an air of secrecy and strange behavior rather than by the quality of its products.

A sign of its bizarre decisions was the creation of a second site in 2016 that replicated the original site but had a different URL (madamkratom.ca). The confusion stemmed from the fact that both sites coexisted.

None of its sites provided information about kratom or how to use its products. This kind of sketchy behavior upset clients, who could not trust a store run this way.

A Vice article recounts the ultimate experience of understanding what Madam Kratom was all about. This post tells the story of how the writer wanted to try kratom for the first time and, overwhelmed by the confusing Madam Kratom site, decided to stop by the address mentioned online.

There he found an old industrial building and the “Madam” herself behaving in a stressed, nervous, and paranoid manner. When asked what dosage he should use for the products, the “Madam” urged the confused customer to search the internet.

The truth is that this interaction serves as an example of this vendor’s handling of its customers. After several years of complaints and bad decisions, Madam Kratom closed its doors in 2019.

Was Madam Kratom Legit?

Yes, Madam Kratom was legit — no customers complained about being scammed or otherwise misled by this vendor.

However, Madam Kratom was not a member of the American Kratom Association (AKA), and the evidence indicates it did not conduct third-party testing on its kratom. This raised a huge red flag about the quality and purity of its products.

The most disturbing issue was how its owner, “Madam,” dealt with the customers. An article in Vice recounts the writer’s first experience purchasing kratom and how he had to meet in person with “Madam,” who treated the entire transaction almost like a drug exchange.

The owner was a highly paranoid person with little interest in making her customers like her. This predisposition is particularly annoying within the kratom community, characterized by a general sense of companionship.

“Madam” wanted nothing to do with helping her customers and urged them to simply Google how to use the products. This, coupled with poor management of its websites, led to the company’s closure in 2019.

The main customer complaints were about poor customer service and shifty business practices, not its products. In fact, many people cited Madam Kratom strains as the best they’d ever tried.

With this in mind, despite not having lab tests, this vendor’s products seemed of good quality. However, a reputable company must test its products and, ideally, apply for AKA membership.

Madam Kratom Product Reviews

This vendor has been out of business for several years now, and accessing any of its sites or social media is impossible. Still, we know some things about its past product selection thanks to old reviews and outdated posts.

First, the aforementioned Vice article mentions that its product selection was somewhat chaotic and extensive, which matches other experiences we found. Madam Kratom specialized mainly in kratom powders, offering more than 25 strains at its peak.

In fact, for years, this was the only vendor in Montreal offering White Sumatra. Given that it was established in an almost primitive era of kratom in Canada, it makes sense that it mainly offered powder, the most popular and best-selling form of kratom.

We do not know if this vendor offered other forms, such as capsules, tinctures, or extracts.

Some of the strains offered by Madam Kratom:

What You Were Expected To Pay

Madam Kratom charged absurdly high prices for products that were not even tested. Furthermore, there were no discounts or coupons to make those prices any more affordable.

This vendor charged $40 for as little as 25 grams of kratom powder, and it would cost $214.95 to get a 600-gram bag. Madam Kratom also featured kilo options, but they were not affordable, costing $328, or about 33 cents per gram.

These prices were almost three times higher than the industry average for kilos, which is supposed to be the most cost-efficient. Undoubtedly, these crazy prices were another reason for the non-viability of this business.

On the other hand, Madam Kratom offered free shipping for all its customers. Orders of $60 or less were shipped via Canada Post without tracking information. Although shipping could be extremely slow, there were no complaints about missing purchases.

Another disadvantage of this vendor is that it did not accept refunds.

What Other Customers Say About This Brand

Despite all its problems, Madam Kratom was one of the most recognized vendors in Canada and had a small customer base. Opinions were really dissimilar.

On the one hand, many users were delighted with the vendor’s products. User Kendra Spence said Madam Kratom was “the best company in Canada by FAR! Quick service, excellent product, and great customer service.”

Similarly, user Kyler Goodin noted the speed of the shipment and said he was “very happy with my experience.” For her part, user Sylvain Licorne said Madam Kratom was “the best way to get kratom in Canada.”

However, there is also the other side of the coin. Reddit user “abillionmarbles” referred to the inconsistency of its products. They stated, “the last batch of Borneo I had was probably the worst I’ve had in about five years, but the Maeng Da is always a-ok.”

According to Reddit user “bradygamess,” they were getting products from this vendor, “but then the quality went to shite so I’ve been trying to find one that’s had quality stuff all year.”

In general, reviews of its products tend to be quite positive, with many having been left without their favorite store after it closed. However, many others point to the brand’s inconsistency and frequent stock issues.

Final Thoughts: Good Quality, Bad Service

Madam Kratom was one of the first kratom stores in Montreal and garnered a small but loyal customer base. However, due to some sloppiness with its website and poor customer service, it closed its doors in 2019.

Its two sites are currently inaccessible, but from various customer reviews, we can assume that Madam Kratom specialized in kratom powders. It managed to carry more than 25 strains; many were almost impossible to find in Montreal.

However, this vendor’s main drawback was its customer service and lack of interest in helping its customers with information about its products or how to use them.

As for the purity of its kratom, this vendor did not have AKA approval and did not seem to perform any third-party testing either. Beyond that, the reviews on its kratom’s quality were pretty solid.

Its prices represented yet another of its shortcomings. Madam Kratom charged astronomically high prices compared to other stores, and its price per gram was up to three times higher than the market average.

Madam Kratom closed its doors in 2019, but you can still get quality kratom in Canada. We recommend you try our top three AKA-certified vendors like, Kona Kratom, Happy Hippo, and Golden Monk.
