Can Kratom Help Improve Your Sex Life? What You Need to Know

What is Kratom?

Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) is a plant grown mainly in Southeast Asia. Traditionally, communities consume the plant’s leaves directly. It can also be served as kratom tea or, in modern times, it’s been sold in capsule and pill form.

The consumption of kratom dates back thousands of years, but it’s only recently become popular in the U.S.

The substance is currently legal in the U.S., although it’s never been FDA approved. Kratom can be bought online or inside alternative health stores.

Some of the benefits of kratom include:

There are multiple strains of kratom, denoted by the colors of the veins in the leaves. There are many similarities between the different strains, but they are distinct enough to produce different effects.

Medically, kratom is considered to be both a sedative and a stimulant. Users need to be aware of safe dosing guidelines and must remain vigilant to avoid dependency.

How Kratom Enhances Sexual Performance

Even though kratom has been used in folk medicine for thousands of years to enhance sexual performance, almost no scientific studies have been conducted into the benefits of kratom for sex.

Today, erectile dysfunction is one of the most common forms of sexual dysfunction. Studies have found that between 20% and 57% of North Americans have erectile dysfunction [2].

Experts have concluded that sexual dysfunction of all kinds represents a serious public health problem.

So, how might kratom help enhance sex drive?

There are three main mechanisms involved with kratoms libido-enhancing qualities:

1. Kratom Improves Energy Levels

A lack of function could occur due to a lack of energy. As daily life becomes more hectic, fatigue and reduced energy levels could lead to a lack of performance.

2. Kratom May Reduce Anxiety

Anxiety disorders afflict an estimated 40 million Americans, which naturally manifests as performance anxiety. Kratom could help to combat anxiety.

3. Kratom Stimulates Feelings of Euphoria

Many recreational kratom users consume the substance because they experience feelings of euphoria. Excitement is always a major advantage when it comes to sexual performance.

These are just some of the reasons why kratom could act as a sexual enhancer. But what does the limited science say about the matter?

The Science of Kratom & Sex

One study entitled Improved Sexual Functioning of Long-Term Daily Users of Mitragyna speciosa focused on 92 Malaysian males who used kratom daily. They consumed an average of 1200 mL of kratom every day [1].

The results of the study were startling:

  1. 75 people (82%) said they had more sexual energy.
  2. 71 people (77%) reported delayed ejaculation.
  3. 70 people (76%) revealed they had no trouble maintaining an erection.
  4. 51 people (55%) claimed to have experienced a longer climax.
  5. 44 people (48%) said they had more sexual desire.

Overall, 85% of Malaysian males in the study said they had a higher level of satisfaction from their sex lives because of kratom.

Although this study was extremely positive about the sexual benefits of kratom, these results were gained from an extremely small focus group. However, there are plenty of online anecdotes from kratom users that claim similar benefits from consuming kratom to enhance sexual performance.

What’s the Best Kratom for Sex?

Certain strains of kratom focus more on stimulation than sedation and vice-versa. Anyone using kratom for sex needs to be aware of the different strains and the effects they have.

Let’s take a look at the best kratom for sex.

What are the Different Strains of Kratom?

You may have looked at online kratom vendors and seen references to multiple colors of kratom. These are the strains because each type will have different colored veins in its leaves.

The different colored veins are a result of the alkaloid levels inside each plant. You’ll find three distinct strains of kratom. The fourth strain, known as “yellow kratom,” is a hybrid.

Here’s what you need to know about the different strains of kratom:

Red Vein Kratom

This is the most potent type of kratom. It’s known for making the user feel calm and relieved. Its potency means it’s a great muscle relaxant, analgesic, and an excellent stimulant. Borneo Red and Red Sumatra are two of the most popular red vein strains.

Green Vein Kratom

Green vein kratom acts as both a stimulant and a sedative. Its effects are more subtle, and first-time users who have tried other strains are often disappointed.

However, green vein kratom is an excellent middle-ground for use in boosting sexual performance and libido overall.

Popular green vein kratoms include Green Maeng Da and Malaysian Green.

White Vein Kratom

White vein kratom is a mood booster. The stimulating effects of these strains make them extremely popular among recreational users. Both White Sumatra and Pontianak White Horn are great for experiencing feelings of euphoria and reaching a higher climax.

Of course, there are many different types of products within each category. There’s no single “best” option for everyone.

What’s the Best Way to Take Kratom for Sex?

By far, one of the most popular methods for consuming kratom is to use the “toss and wash” method.

Before engaging in sex, take kratom at least 45 minutes beforehand. Place powdered kratom directly into your mouth and swallow it with water.

Due to the bitter taste of kratom, this might not be the best option for everyone. If you don’t like bitter tastes, try taking it together with food and drink.

The effects of kratom typically take longer to kick in, but if you take it at least an hour or two before, you should already be feeling the benefits by the time you enter the bedroom.

Some recreational users even combine both methods for an enhanced effect.

The Potential Side Effects of Taking Kratom for Sex

Although Kratom isn’t FDA-approved, it’s widely considered to be a safe substance. Most users will never experience any significant side effects.

First-time kratom users should start with small doses. We recommend consuming no more than ten grams of kratom per day and no more than four times per week.

The most common reason why people experience side effects is consuming more than they can handle.

Some of the noted side effects include:

  • Dry mouth
  • Nausea
  • Stomach pain
  • Elevated heartbeat
  • Headaches

There’s a limited amount of research showing that serious liver damage could occur as a rare side effect. However, the studies demonstrating this focused on people who were also consuming other natural and pharmaceutical substances.

The point is the vast majority of people will never experience any negative side effects, with even fewer suffering serious damage.

Final Thoughts: Is Kratom Good for Sex Drive?

Both limited research and anecdotal evidence show that kratom can be beneficial for your sex drive. With so many types of kratom available to try, it’s important to experiment.

Different people will experience dramatically different results. Overall, this is a safe substance that requires no awkward trips to the doctor’s office and no prescriptions.

Ensure you monitor your dosage carefully and immediately stop consuming kratom if you experience any severe side effects.
