The AeroPress is a specific type of coffee maker that’s designed for easy and fast brewing. It’s widely used by campers, backpackers, or even people who live busy lifestyles. Yet, not many people have thought of using it to make kratom tea.

This article will cover everything you need to know to make kratom tea with an AeroPress, including all you need to know about the techniques and materials.

Why Make Kratom Tea With An AeroPress?

Mitragyna speciosa (kratom) is a tree native to Southeast Asia and has traditionally been used for pain relief, to boost energy, and as a mood enhancer. It can also improve focus and relieve anxiety and depression symptoms.

Regardless of the effects you’re after, it’s nice to have a fast way to make tea. The quicker you can drink it, the sooner the effects kick in.

The Aeropress is a piston-style coffee maker that presses coffee into a cup through a thin paper filter.

It makes delicious coffee with distinct flavor notes. Although it makes only one cup at a time, backpackers and campers love it because of its size and robustness. Additionally, this device is ideal if you have a busy life — it’s easy and fast to use.

AeroPress is mainly used to make coffee, but you can also use it to prepare infusions, though it delivers only 6 to 8 ounces at a time. However, thanks to the paper filter that prevents grinds or plant matter from entering the cup, AeroPress is ideal for preparing kratom beverages.

By adding the amount of kratom you desire to the coffee maker, you can adjust the strength of the tea.

Overall, AeroPress is a highly effective and efficient tool for making kratom tea, offering numerous benefits to those who use it. Whether you are an experienced user or a newcomer, using AeroPress can help you achieve kratom tea tailored to your specific tastes and needs.

What Do You Need?

The equipment is straightforward: an AeroPress, kratom powder, hot water, and optional flavorings.

The amount of kratom you’ll need depends on the desired effects — keep in mind that lower doses are stimulating, and heavier ones are sedating. Use our dosage guide for more details.

Here’s a rough guideline:

  • 1 – 2 grams: Very light dose
  • 2 – 4 grams: Light dose
  • 4 – 6 grams: Typical dosage for the average user
  • 6 – 9 grams: A significant dose
  • 9+ grams: A very heavy dose

Steps to Make Kratom Tea With An AeroPress

While AeroPress is a relatively simple device, it allows for two methods of brewing kratom. They yield the same result, but we encourage you to try both to see which one you find easier or quicker.

Traditional Method

Step 1: Measure out your kratom powder.

Step 2: Boil some water. You’ll need about 8-10 ounces per serving. Let the water cool for a few minutes, as the ideal temperature is around 194℉ (90°C).

Step 3: Put a paper filter in the AeroPress and wet it with some hot water. This will help remove any paper taste and also preheat the device.

Step 4: Place the brewing device on a cup. Add the kratom to the AeroPress, followed by the hot water. Stir the mixture thoroughly to ensure the kratom is fully dissolved. Wait at least five minutes, but fifteen or more is best.

Step 5: Insert the plunger and press down slowly. This step separates the usable liquid from the unwanted residue by pushing it through the filter.

Step 6: Tea is ready! You can add some honey or lemon to improve the flavor, or just drink it as is.

Inverted Method

Step 1: Preheat the AeroPress (you can just fill the coffee maker with hot tap water).

Step 2: AeroPress generally has circles with numbers. Take the plunger and insert it until it’s at the top of the fourth circle inside the brew chamber. Add the desired amount of kratom powder to the chamber.

Step 3: Pour hot water (around 200°F/ 93°C) over the kratom powder until it reaches the top of the third circle. Wait 30 seconds, and stir three times gently with a paddle.

Step 4: Fill the chamber with hot water to the very top.

Step 5: Put on the filter cap, making sure it’s screwed on tightly. Wait another five minutes or more to allow the mixture to fully integrate.

Step 6: Holding both the brew chamber and the plunge simultaneously, flip the AeroPress so it’s sitting on top of the cup. Plunge the kratom powder carefully until you have pushed all of it out of the chamber. Enjoy!

Make sure you clean the AeroPress shortly after using it to avoid residue. Remove the plunger and empty the residue left from the kratom powder. Then, rinse the device with warm water and let it dry.

Tips for Making the Perfect Cup of Kratom Tea

The AeroPress is a simple machine — but that doesn’t mean that your tea-making technique can’t get sophisticated. Below, you’ll find some tips to ensure the quality and taste of a good cup of kratom tea:

  • Measure the kratom powder accurately, taking into account your desired effects and the strains used.
  • Use water at the optimal temperature, and don’t obsess about destroying kratom’s compounds. They’re stable at high temperatures; you can even use boiling water — although we recommend not taking the risk.
  • Time the brewing process correctly to reap all the alkaloids from the powder.
  • Don’t be shy about adding sweeteners or flavorings. They are a great way to improve the taste and some act as potentiators.
  • Try it cold. Let the tea cool before incorporating ice and a slice of lemon for a revitalizing kratom-iced tea.
  • Don’t be afraid to blend strains to get a unique cup of tea. Just be aware of each strain’s effects.

Possible Flavorings for Kratom Tea

Many people avoid kratom tea because they find the taste too bitter. Adding flavorings can not only improve the taste but also enhance the effects.

Here are a few ideas for enhancing the flavor with natural ingredients:

Citrus Juices

Mixing some sort of acidic juice into the tea is the best way to hide the flavor of kratom. The potency of the alkaloids tends to increase with citric acid, so be careful.

Juices that pair best with kratom include:

Milk

Tea and milk are a centuries-old combo — but not many people have thought of applying this to kratom tea.

The following are some typical milk recommendations that cover the flavor of kratom:

  • Chocolate
  • Coconut
  • Almond
  • Whole-milk

Sweeteners

While they don’t add any special flavor per se, sweeteners can be a great pick for masking the bitter kratom taste. These can be natural or artificial, so you really can’t go wrong with them.

To make your tea less bitter, add the following:

  • Sugar
  • Stevia, Splenda, or other alternatives
  • Mio flavoring
  • Honey
